BLACK BUTTERFLY
BLACK BUTTERFLY PANEL ONE
I wasn’t consciously thinking anything when I started to create the Black Butterfly and it wasn’t until after it was well underway that I realized how intuitive the process was. To me, butterflies represent hope and positivity. The notion of a black butterfly seems like an oxymoron. But although the color black is often associated with negativity, I think it can be seen as powerful and beautiful.
Just as this idea was conceived subconsciously, the hidden messages “smile” and “love” appear within the design. A smile can change a person’s mood and love is the most powerful trait humans can possess. My trademark motifs of mushrooms and carnivorous plants along with African designs also appear within the piece, which is intended to bring hope and beauty into viewers’ lives as well as a message of positivity.
